ZUCHT
A deep exhalation, or an uncontrollable urge that leads to addiction - that is “zucht”. In a mix of rap, hardcore and punk, musician and performance artist Jelle Huizinga searches for tenderness amidst harshness and adrenaline.
In this musical performance, we follow a self-destructive individual looking for salvation. Based on personal experiences, Huizinga makes the urge to use palpable for the audience in a unique intersection of live music and performance.
Utilising only two synchronised stroboscopic floodlights, we see a figure rapidly manifesting and disappearing, constantly oppressing the paradoxical desire to feel everything or feel nothing, to be seen or to disappear, to take part in life or to avoid it at all costs.
Premièred on the 20th of March 2024 at Festival Cement in Den Bosch, The Netherlands.
