MARY STUART, QUEEN OF SCOTS

MARY STUART, QUEEN OF SCOTLAND lays bare the historic root of the contemporary relationship between Scotland and England - the colonised and the imperial coloniser. It shows the way in which the physical oppression of another nation at the hands of an individual ruler ultimately leads to the chronic emotional and cultural oppression of a nation’s own folk. Accompanied by live folk music, a deeply personal and intimate story unfolds, showing the relationship between two queens, friends and cousins turn to dust under the patriarchal pressure of their advisors, led astray and tossed out by their fellows, left to rule with broken moral compasses, and ultimately, to live and die in loneliness.
